Moments

Watch that video. Now imagine being one of those on the subway. Imagine sitting there, thinking about work or school or home, whatever you think about when you're on a bus or car or train, whatever stays in your mind and harasses you like flies through the day.

And then from a group of hipster boys with iPhones you start hearing something lyrical, melodious, loud and moving. Totally unexpected to yourself, this plays out without interruption from the crowd, without heckling or jeering, and then applause at the end.

A moment in time, unexpected, where people can be brought out from their thoughts and lives and simply enjoy. Enjoy the moment. And then it passes, and if you're lucky you come from it with clarity.

In places like Seattle, down by Pike's Place and the Convention Center we see buskers all around, with their instrument cases and sometimes a few CDs. We take these moments of music, live music, performance, for granted.

Performance is the soul of humanity in its whole. Enjoy it.
